Breyer® model horses, which begin as artist’s sculptures, are all handcrafted and hand-painted with airbrushes and paintbrushes. Approximately 20 different artisans handle each individual Breyer® model from start to finish – a process, which, 54 years later, is still done by human hands, not machines. Even today, no two Breyer® model horses are ever exactly alike!

Each toy within a category of Breyer Toys, i.e. "Traditional", "Classic", "Minnie Whinnies" etc. is made at the same scale, so that you can combine them for playing  together.

The Fancy Dance evolved from the early Plains tribe’s war and victory dances. It is an energetic style of dance, usually performed by younger men who spin, twist, and make quick steps and fast turns. Their outfits are traditionally composed of lots of bright colors, metallic beads, sequins and ribbons which create a flashy display. They have two bustles, a head roach and intricately beaded headband… all of which are faithfully and stunningly recreated on a spirited, snorting horse that is caught up in the excitement of the drum beat. This unique creation by a Virginia artist Devon Archer won The People’s Choice Award in the national competition, “The Native Art of Horse Painting.”

Happy Trails

A horse that reflected the style and costumes worn by Gene Autry and Roy Rogers in old Hollywood westerns -- '30s and '40s cowboy retro, in other words -- was the initial dream of this fine artist and former fashion designer,  Nevena Christi. To give it an edge, she also wanted the horse to look like it was made of tooled leather, with a vintage saddle cinched on its back. Nevena now lives in El Paso and runs Rocketbuster Boot Company, where some of the wildest cowboy boots you will ever see are handmade.

Writes Janee Hughes, a former art teacher and book illustrator from Salem, Oregon, Biologists are not in agreement about the purpose of a zebra's stripes. Some say the wonderful patterns act as camouflage in the tall grass, but others say the stripes confuse predators. When a lion sees a herd of zebras, it is difficult for her to distinguish one animal from another in order to single out a potential victim.
