Welland Canal Eastside Trail Grand Opening with the UCEA

After 8 years of negotiations we finally achieved success and have a trail along the Welland canal through the beautiful hills and grasslands.

Who says politics are not rewarding???

Welland Rose City Parade with the Upper Canada Equestrian Association

We had 8 riders participating.  Everybody had a good time and all the horses were angels!

Come out and join our group.  We have a lot of activities planned this year.

Max
Thoroughbred Max sadly passed away due to a massive internal infection in August 2005.  He did it all, dressage, jumping, trail, Yasmin even took him to some games and came home with first price.  She says he watched every horse going into the class and by the time it was his turn he knew exactly where to go.
Here they got dressed up for a Halloween Costume Ride.
You were great, Max!

Charlie

Charlie is one of our horses and he came to visit the store a few weeks back after Breck had ridden him in the Thorold Christmas Parade.  The two of them marched right in the front door and proceeded up one step to all the glascounters and showcases, down the ramp into the Tandy Leather section, where you see him standing in front of the bulletin board.  From there he wound his way around the corner, through a door and down 2 steps into the workshop, past the sewing machines, one quick look back for the photographer and out the back door.
Now how many of you can do that with your horse?
Of course he comes by this sensible disposition naturally.  His mother has been on the porch and in our house many times.  In fact all our animals seem drawn into the house at times.  The rooster "licked" his wounds from a fight in front of the stove and recuperated, the racoon spends the odd night in the barn and then comes in through the catdoor to sleep inside.
The heck with the great outdoors - comfort is where it's at!       Charly leaving through the workshop

April & Ruby
Both of them came to us the summer of 2002.  Ruby is well known by now to our customers in the store: she announces everyone coming in and accompanies everybody to the door when they leave.  She and the racoon are very good friends.  When they playfight and April's sharp little teeth are getting too much for Ruby, she will throw herself down on the little gray bandit, who tries to extricate herself with much groaning.  At night they sleep side by side.  Humans declare them enemies, but nobody told those two.  Why can't we learn from them?

Dr.med.vet.Dalia Gough-Livestock Medicines Education Program

On Dec.4. & 7.02 Horseworld Emporium hosted a seminar organized by the University of Guelph, Ridgeway College and held by Niagara area veterinarian Dr.Dalia Gough, pictured at right with some of the "students", at the Port Robinson community Hall.  If you are a horseowner OR rider concerned about safety in medications and want to continue purchasing medications over the counter you  need to take this seminar and accompanying test.  Proposed legislation for April 2003 indicates, that topical and injectable antibiotics and injectable wormers are no longer available for over the counter sales without a certificate from this seminar.

Dr.Hiltrud Strasser

July 2001 and April 2002 we had the good fortune to welcome Dr. Hiltrud Strasser for a clinic in hoofcare.  The participants learned the natural form and functions of a healthy hoof and had plenty of practice with a basic trim.  She is the author of several books on the subject and a new video is also available.
The picture you see here is of a severely laminitic Paso Fino mare, Sierra, that was brought to our farm for a trim by Dr.Strasser, because the owner wanted to give her a fighting chance after the local vet had advised her to put the horse down.
Dr. Strasser was back for one last  seminar at the end of September 2003.  She is concentrating on a different area of the world for seminars now.  We have a hoofcare centre near Vancouver , that will be able to serve NorthAmerica for all barefoot questions.
If we have more seminars they will be listed in coming events.  Please check there.

Upper Canada Equestrian Association

This noncompetitive club was founded many years ago with the mandate to develop and maintain trails in our area for horse use.  Members are busy with trailriding, parades, council meetings and have taken many trips to different areas with their horses, to see other trailsystems and just have plain fun with their horses.
Breck has been President of the club in the past and grew the club from under 20 to over 120 members.  The picture on the right shows him at the dedication ceremony for founding member Joan Gay, who died a few years ago.  In 2002 the club put a mounting block with a memorial plaque on the Heritage Trail in Niagara on the Lake.  Many people rode up with their horses and we had a terrific potluck dinner for everyone.  See us on the trail.  dates are in coming events.

Walter Zettl
A respected and much loved teacher, who lives right in our community and has given insightful advice to countless riders during his clinics and lectures in Europe, Canada and the US.  We were fortunate to have him for a booksigning in the store.  "Dressage in Harmony" is fast becoming a standard on bookshelves around the country.  Now we also have his videos "A matter of trust" volume I and II available, each about 2 hours in length.
